Rogaška Slatina
Rogaška Slatina is famous for its centuries old traditions, indicated by excavations and a Roman road which led from Lemberg, passing through Rogatec to Celeia and Petovia. These are signs that this area was known by the Celts and Romans, and from 1803 it started its development from small village to a modern health resort. In the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century the first hotels were built, Home of Health (now the Grand Hotel) and the main health hall (today’s Crystal Hall). All the hotels were renovated in 2003 with the modern touches and comforts, but they still manage to look like time has not passed them by. Rogaška Slatina is known for its visitors of Royal families (Habsburg, Bonaparte, Hohenzollern, Bourbon, Obrenović, Karađorđević), aristocracy (Turn und Taxis, Della Grazia, Furstenberg, Windischgraetz, Liechtenstein) and by the other important guests (the writer Berta von Suttner, musician Franz Liszt).
Hidden in a green valley between hills, and offering the famous Donat healing mineral water and mild climate, Rogaška Slatina has always offered healthy relaxation, peace, harmony and well-being. In the year 1665 one of the most powerful feudal lords, Peter Zrinski, recovered after drinking this healing water and as a result he made the mineral water world-famous. The secret of Donat water is the uniquely high magnesium content, this is what helps curing and preventing metabolic diseases. The healing power of the water is also used at renowned Health centres offering modern diagnostic and curative programmes.
