Elba (Latin: Ilva) is an Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Elba is 20 km from the Tuscan coastal city of Grosseto (42° 44′ N 10° 22′ E). With an area of ​​223 km², it is the third largest island in Italy. Elba is a mountainous island, its highest peak, Monte Campanne, reaches 1019 m above sea level, with a very indented coastline, numerous bays and a pleasant climate.

History
After the Romans, the island was taken over by the Lombards in the 7th century. In the Middle Ages, from 926 to 1399, the island belonged to the maritime republic of Pisa. Later, the island was owned by Florence, Spain from 1596 to 1709, Naples, France from 1802 to 1814, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and since 1860 it has been part of Italy. From May 3, 1814 to February 26, 1815, Elba was a principality of Napoleon by decision of the Congress of Vienna.
